Secretary of State for Health, and Leigh MP, Andy Burnham officially opened the landmark housing development scheme on Lord Street in Leigh on 4 September comprising Rueben’s Court and Leigh Community Resettlement Service.

Adactus Housing and Ark Design and Architecture have worked closely with Wigan Borough Council and Richmond Fellowship, a specialist provider of mental health services, to provide spacious, high quality apartments for 14 people living with the effects of mental ill health.

The building which is owned by Adactus draws on local historical cues and expresses its historical nature in the arrangement of full height windows as seen on Victorian terraces in Leigh.

Ian Moores, Director of Ark Design and Architecture explains, “The launch marked the beginning of a positive impact, both to the surrounding environment and certainly to the lives of its residents.”

The £1.9m scheme has already received a commendation for its innovative design from Wigan Council’s Urban Design Awards.
